Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

The submission file is in Word format or RTF.

Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.

  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.

The text follows MLA style. Left justification; no hyphens. Footnotes rather than end notes. Use Works Cited page for references.  Single space between paragraphs. Indicate new paragraphs by indentations (tab), not by adding extra spaces (space bar).

  • Preferred length for scholarship and criticism is 4,500 to 10,000 words. Include a brief (250-word) abstract.

Expected length for biography, book reviews, performance reviews, interviews, conference papers, and notes is 1,500 to 4,000 words.

Note: Since most productions of Wilson plays will end before performance reviews will be published, such reviews must focus on the unique contributions the performances make toward the staging of Wilson’s plays rather than as traditional guides to theater-attendance decisions.

    Guide for handling dramatic dialogue:

Once a second person speaks, block the text.  In other words, while it is acceptable to write "Troy says, 'Come here, Rose'," once a second character speaks, the text must be formatted thus:

ROSE: You gonna drink yourself to death.
TROY: Death ain't nothing. I done seen him.

Character's name in full caps.  Followed by colon.  Same font size as text.  Tabbed once.  In extended quotes, all lines after first are hanging.

  • Multimedia submissions are encouraged.  Primarily, this means audio and video, although other ideas may be considered and approved by the editors.  Copyright issues are the responsibility of the author.

  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.

If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
